The Plight Of The Eastern Bluebird (Sialia Sialis)

The Eastern Bluebird was at one time in the past very common & plentiful in The State Of Ohio.

That has changed over the years & now these beautiful birds can not survive without the help of human beings who care about mother nature & their preservation & restoration including habitit that has been lost to industrialization, urban sprawl & other problems over the years.

This blog will address all the problems that have caused Eastern Bluebird reproduction & population to decline & offer remedies for people wishing to help save Bluebirds.

If you are interested in the restoration & preservation of The Eastern Bluebird & their habitat  like we are this blog is for you, your family & friends. It is an educational blog.

This is just the beginning & we will be putting up many post concerning this species & topic.

What Is A Bluebird?

The Eastern bluebird is a sparrow-sized cousin of the robin. The male has a dark sky-blue back & a reddish-chest. As in most birds, the female is duller in color. Bluebirds raise two or three families of three to six insect-devouring young each year, from March thru August. The female builds a neat, cup-shaped nest of grass. She lays one sky-blue egg each day for three to six days & incubates them for two weeks. Both adults feed the young for two & a half weeks. When the young leave the nest the male teaches them to hunt, while the female takes a rest or builds a new nest.
